Glencoe Stock Theft Unit apprehend goat thief

Stock theft continues to haunt livestock owners in the area and the SAPS continue to foil culprits.

A 41-year-old suspect was arrested last Monday for possession of suspected stolen livestock following an intelligence-driven operation in Sibongile.

Members of the Glencoe Stock Theft & Endangered Species (STES) Unit, in collaboration with Dundee Rural Safety officials and District Communication, acted on a tip-off regarding suspected stolen livestock being kept at a homestead in Sibongile.
“Upon arrival at the property, the police recovered eight goats.

The occupant of the property failed to provide a satisfactory explanation or proof of ownership,” said SAPS spokesperson Constable Siyabonga Nkwanyana.
Preliminary investigations have confirmed that one of the goats has been positively identified by its rightful owner, who reported the theft.
The suspect will soon appear in the Dundee Magistrate’s Court on charges related to possession of suspected stolen stock.
