Greytown court hands murderer life sentence for killing minor

Greytown Regional Court handed a life sentence to a man who brutally murdered a minor in Gwinyamathe.

The Greytown Regional Court on Friday sentenced 29-year-old Nkosikhona Mngadi to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of a minor in Gwinyamathe Location, under the Ematimatolo police area.

According to police reports, the accused quarrelled with the victim two weeks ago. During the altercation, Mngadi assaulted her with sticks and stones until she succumbed to her injuries.

Detective Sergeant Manzini of Ematimatolo SAPS led the investigation. Within two days, the suspect was arrested, and all relevant evidence was collected and presented in court. Confronted with overwhelming evidence, Mngadi confessed to the crime. The court found him guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

Umzinyathi District Commissioner, Major General Francis Slambert, welcomed the outcome, stating:
“The SAPS in Umzinyathi District remains resolute in ensuring that those who harm our children face the full might of the law. This life sentence should serve as a clear message that crimes against minors will never be tolerated. I commend the Ematimatolo team for their outstanding work that brought justice to the victim and her family.”
