Action-packed week sees Sarel Cilliers teams performing with pride

Busy week at Sarel Cilliers with sport

It was another busy week for Sarel Cilliers High School, with learners excelling both on and off the sports field.
Debate competition
On Tuesday last week, Sarel Cilliers hosted an inter-school debate competition. Teams from Dundee High, ML Sultan, Dundee Secondary and Sarel Cilliers went head-to-head in a battle of words and ideas.
Mrs Vermaak praised the high standard of debating, noting that all schools displayed excellent skills. The overall winner was Dundee High, but every team left the competition with pride.
Girls’ cricket
Sarel Cilliers’ first girls’ cricket team travelled to Vryheid High on Thursday. They produced a strong performance, beating their hosts by 59 runs.
Angling
The school’s anglers enjoyed an overnight fishing trip to Charl Mari, Hattingspruit, over the weekend. Despite chilly weather, it proved to be a successful outing.
The angler of the weekend was Tanvir Dookhi with a catch of 5.225kg. He was followed by Arav Bhagwandeen with 3.4kg and Shondre Pillay with a 2.3kg carp.
Witteberg Sports Tournament
On Friday and Saturday, Sarel Cilliers learners travelled to Witteberg High School in Bethlehem to compete in rugby 7s, hockey 6s and netball Fast 5.
Competition was tough, but Sarel’s teams gave their best, with the boys’ hockey side making it all the way to the final before being defeated.
The learners gained valuable experience and enjoyed the camaraderie of the event.
