Minister Hlabisa to drive Umzinyathi Water Summit in Dundee
Minister Hlabisa leads key discussions in Dundee to improve water supply, strengthen capacity, and enhance service delivery in uMzinyathi.
The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Velenkosini Hlabisa, will deliver the keynote address at the uMzinyathi Water Summit, to be held from October 16-17 2025, at Battlefield Country Lodge in Dundee.
Summit to address water challenges across all wards
“The two-day summit will tackle critical water service delivery challenges across all 61 wards in the uMzinyathi District. Central to the discussions will be the implementation of the Water Services Authority’s Capacity Building Plan, guided by the Water Services Act, said Ministerial media person, Pearl Maseko-Binqose.
The Department of Cooperative Governance, through the Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA), continues to assist municipalities in improving infrastructure and service delivery as mandated by Section 154 of the Constitution.
The summit will focus on practical solutions to overcome backlogs in water supply and infrastructure limitations. Key priorities include:
-
Ensuring sustainable service delivery across all 61 wards.
-
Strengthening provincial and municipal collaboration under Section 154.
-
Leveraging available grant funding — including MIG, WSIG, and RBIG — for essential infrastructure upgrades.
“The uMzinyathi Water Summit will bring together representatives from national, provincial, and local government to build partnerships and develop sustainable solutions for improved water provision throughout the district,” she said.
