Mayor launches R134-million project to upgrade Hajee Jamal Street in Dundee

Hajee Jamal Street begins a long-awaited upgrade as the R134-million rehabilitation project is launched.

One of Peacevale’s most notorious suburban routes, Hajee Jamal Street, is finally set for a long-awaited upgrade.

Major road overhaul launched

This follows the official launch on Thursday of a R134-million rehabilitation project, which will transform the pothole-riddled stretch of road that residents say has damaged countless vehicles.

The project, expected to take 10 months to complete, will see the full upgrade of a two-kilometre section of the road.

Turning the symbolic first sod, Mayor Mcebo Mkhize said the work will include the cleaning and repairing of 43 storm-water drains, resurfacing with a 40mm premix, landscaping, new road signage and markings.

The project will also create 11 temporary jobs.

“Okwabantu ebantwini – for the people, by the people. Together in prosperity,”
Mayor Mkhize said.
