Visitor claims Dundee Open golf title

A youngster from Kilbarchan beat voth the inclement weather and locals to win the coveted trophy.

Dundee Country Club pushed through chilly, wet weather on Saturday as it hosted its annual Dundee Open Day. Twenty-nine golfers braved the rain, forcing the tournament to be shortened to 27 holes.

The club extended its thanks to sponsors Brian du Toit and Cameron Fogg of Farmers Agri, as well as course superintendent Jo Khumalo and his team for keeping the course in top condition. Appreciation was also expressed to Mpho and the kitchen staff for the meals, Kevin for managing the start and scoreboard, and the cleaning staff and barman for their hard work throughout the day.

L. Zondi of Kilbarchan claimed the day’s Best Gross title, with Dundee’s Ethan Jansen finishing runner-up. Best Net went to L. Sithole on 103, followed by Dr S. Kunene on 114.
In the morning session, S. Ayob carded an 82 to take Best Gross, while J. Khumalo secured Best Net with 74. Afternoon honours went to P. Mbhele with a gross 37 and M. Dlamini with a net 36.
Upcoming events include the Dundee Corporate Classic on November 28.
