Police foil alleged supermarket robbery in Nquthu

Police arrested four men in Nquthu after uncovering an alleged plot to rob a local supermarket at gunpoint.

Police nabbed four suspects aged between 39 and 49 in Nquthu yesterday (Monday, November 24), after information was received that the men were planning to rob a local supermarket.

Umzinyathi SAPS spokesperson, Cst Siyabonga Nkwanyana, said that acting on information, SAPS units, including the Glencoe K9 unit, intercepted the men near their targeted supermarket at around 3 pm.
One suspect was found with an unlicensed firearm, while the remaining three were carrying firearms legally licensed to them.

The suspects were charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and conspiracy to commit an armed robbery.
“The 49-year-old suspect found with the unlicensed weapon is expected to appear today, November 25, in the Nquthu Magistrate’s Court.

The remaining three suspects are due to appear on Wednesday, November 26, facing charges of conspiracy to commit an armed robbery,” Nkwanyana said.
