Search continues for Dundee woman swept away in storm

Disaster Management teams have intensified their search for a woman who reportedly slipped into a storm water drain.

Disaster management teams and volunteers have this morning, December 7, resumed the search for a woman who was washed away when she fell into a stormwater drain in the France area of Sibongile.

Phumlani Ntombela, Endumeni Disaster Management head, said that the 34-year-old woman had apparently slipped and fallen into the stormwater drain during the fierce wind, hailstorm that struck Endumeni on Saturday evening.

Ntombela said it had been reported that the woman had become stuck in mud brought down by the raging floodwater.

A Glencoe resident told the Courier he had recorded 85 mm of rain in less than an hour.

Several homes reported flooding, and numerous trees fell during the storm.

Ntombela said search teams had worked until after midnight and are back again in the area today.
