Zondi defended Dundee Open title in fine form

Lusanda Zondi defended his Dundee Open title with a commanding performance during the Easter Battlefield Weekend.

Youngster Lusanda Zondi of Kilbarchan Golf Club continued his impressive run of form by successfully defending his Dundee Open title over the Easter Battlefield Weekend.

Strong performance secures back-to-back titles

Playing off a plus-three handicap, Zondi — who also won the Northern KZN Open in Dundee in February — delivered another outstanding performance to finish on 136 gross and secure top honours.

The tournament, hosted by Dundee Country Club, was played from Friday to Monday in fine weather conditions and attracted a field of 32 players competing in a medal Stableford format.

Ethan Jansen finished as runner-up on 143 gross, while J Khumalo claimed the best net prize on 134, followed by S Hlongwa on 137 net.

In other results, S Adalis won the AM gross on 71, while S Mapanga secured the PM gross on 73.
The best AM net went to S Khumalo on 68, with M Nero taking the PM net on 66.

The weekend also featured additional competitions.

Friday’s four-ball better-ball Stableford was won by Jo Khumalo and Mandla Mthetwa on 48 points, with S Zulu and C Mkhwanazi finishing second on 45 points.

Saturday’s competition saw Khumalo and Mthetwa again take top honours with a score of 58 net.

The club extended its appreciation to Brian du Toit and his team from Farmers Agri for sponsoring the event, as well as to Jo Khumalo and the course staff for maintaining excellent playing conditions.

Thanks were also given to the pro shop, starters, scoreboard officials, bar and cleaning staff, and kitchen team for contributing to a successful weekend.
