Suspect shot dead in shoot-out with police in Msinga

A suspect died after allegedly opening fire on police during an intelligence-driven operation in the Msinga area.

A 29-year-old man was fatally wounded during a shoot-out with police in the Emadulaneni area in the Msinga area in the early hours of Friday.

Suspect allegedly opened fire on officers

Sgt Siyabonga Nkwanyana, SAPS spokesperson, said members of the Tactical Response Team acted on intelligence about a suspect allegedly in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Officers approached the identified premises, where the suspect allegedly opened fire on them.

“Police returned fire in an effort to neutralise the threat.

The suspect sustained fatal injuries during the exchange and was declared dead at the scene.”

A .38 Special revolver and ammunition were recovered at the scene.

Police said all ‘relevant role players were activated and the incident has been reported in line with standard procedures.’
