Dundee police recover stolen firearm during hunt for murder suspect

Police recovered a stolen firearm while searching for a suspect linked to a murder case in the Dundee area.

Police recovered a stolen firearm during an intelligence-driven operation in the Dundee policing area on April 10.

Suspect fled as police closed in

According to police spokesperson Sgt Siyabonga Nkwanyana, members of the Glencoe K9 unit and Umzinyathi Crime Intelligence acted on information about a suspect wanted in a murder case in Nquthu.

“The suspect was reportedly seen in the Sithole area, but fled before police arrived at the scene,” he said.

A search of the area led to the discovery of a 9mm pistol with ammunition, which had been abandoned.

Further investigation revealed that the firearm had been reported stolen in a case in Wentworth in 2011.

The firearm was booked into the Dundee Police Station as an exhibit and will be sent for ballistic testing to determine whether it was used in any other crimes.

Police said investigations are ongoing.
