Vryheid crime briefs: Tavern shooting and arrests for drug possession

A 36-year-old tavern owner was shot while playing pool with his friend

Police recently arrested two people on the R34 near Gluckstadt for possession of drugs. The men were allegedly transporting dagga from Swaziland to Durban. After receiving a tip-off, police waited for the vehicle en-route and intercepted them. The officers found 11 big bags and 24 small bags of dagga, weighing approximately 531kg.
Adding to last week’s crime report of seven murders, another murder happened in Mondlo last week. A 36-year-old tavern owner was shot while playing pool with his friend. An unknown man entered the tavern and pretended to be a customer. A staff member offered to help the supposed customer before he fired shots at the owner. Another man was injured in the shooting. The motive is unknown at this stage and police are investigating.
