Police officers from the Uthukela District Visible Policing unit arrested two people in two separate raids in the early hours of Sunday morning and this morning (January 20).

In the Ngoba area of Upper Tugela, the team traced a 54-year-old man after finding him in possession of an unlicensed pistol with nine rounds of ammunition.

The officers were in the Nkomanzana area on Sunday morning, where they traced a 44-year-old and arrested him for being in possession of a revolver.

Both men appeared in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court today. They face charges of possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition. The recovered guns will be sent for ballistic testing.
