Police warn against reporting false cases
Of concern is that many sexual offence cases are falsely reported

Police spokesperson in the uThukela District, Warrant Officer Basheer Khan, says there has been a spike in the reporting of false cases.
He warned that this is a serious transgression since valuable time, money and resources are wasted when they have to follow up on bogus cases.

“By not telling the truth about an incident, you cause the SAPS investigation to head in a direction that is not going to lead to any success.
“Unfortunately, there are individuals who report false cases. Sexual offences will be scrutinised more closely since this category of crime is especially falsely reported,” warned Khan.
