Police arrest suspects found with stolen vehicles
They were remanded into custody and the investigation continues.
The Uthukela District Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit arrested three suspects in two different incidents after they were found in possession of suspected stolen property.
In the first incident, police arrested a 26-year-old in the Estcourt CBD after a Toyota Corolla was stolen on Sunday, March 9, in Estcourt.
Uthukela District SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan explained that the owner of the Toyota Corolla parked his vehicle in Alexandra Street, Estcourt, and went about his business. When he returned, his vehicle was no longer where he had parked it.
Intensive investigations by members of the Uthukela District Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit resulted in an arrest in the Estcourt CBD three days later. Khan added that further investigations led detectives to the Mshayazafe area, where the stolen vehicle was recovered. The suspect appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court on Monday (March 17), where he was remanded into custody.
In the second incident, two suspects aged 35 and 46 were arrested by police on Monday after also being found in possession of suspected stolen property.
