Police arrest father for rape of young daughters

A 43-year-old man has been arrested in Osizweni for raping his two daughters. Authorities warn against myths linking abuse to curing HIV.

A 43-year-old Osizweni man has been arrested and charged with the rape of his two biological daughters, aged two and four.

Imran Ghafoor of the Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team (CCP) confirmed that the arrest followed after the team received a report about a suspect wanted in connection with rape.

The joint operation included members of the Newcastle K9 Unit (D shift) and the Crime Fighters Task Team (CCPA).

Ghafoor also highlighted a disturbing belief still held by some offenders.

“In some cases, offenders wrongly believe that having sexual intercourse with underage children can cure AIDS. This is false. No one can be cured of HIV by harming another person, especially a child,” he said.

He added that more education is urgently needed to dispel such myths, prevent these horrific crimes, and protect vulnerable children from abuse.

The suspect has since made his first appearance at the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court, while further police investigations continue.
