Police seize stolen rifle in Osizweni crime bust
Police in Osizweni arrest a suspect and recover stolen firearms, SAPS stamps and fraudulent vehicle documents during a multi-unit intelligence operation. Read more here:
Firearms, including a rifle, ammunition, a police uniform, and other SAPS-related equipment, were seized in Osizweni this week following a bust involving various law enforcement units.
The intelligence-driven operation resulted in the arrest of a man linked to a vehicle and stock theft syndicate.
During a search of the suspect’s residence, officers seized the following items:
- One AR-15 assault rifle (positively identified as stolen)
- One .233 spent cartridge
- One 9 mm blank handgun
- Two SAPS date stamps
- One SAPS commission stamp
- One ink pad
- One full SAPS uniform
- Multiple suspected fraudulent vehicle licence discs and a log book
The operation involved SAPS Amajuba District Office, SAPS Newcastle Crime Room, SAPS Newcastle Stabilisation, SAPS Newcastle K9 Unit, SAPS Newcastle Public Order Policing, the CCPA Amajuba District Crime Fighters Task Team, and Ithemba Security Tracing Team.
Further investigations are underway to link the suspect and other syndicate members to additional crimes. Authorities commended all involved for their exceptional work and successful operation.
