Kalicharan couple strongly refute false rumours linking them to child attack
The Kalicharan family has refuted circulating false child abuse claims online and warns the public against sharing unverified information. Read more here:
A photo shared on social media over the weekend wrongly identified Mrs Kalicharan as the mother involved in the Lennoxton child attack.
The Newcastle Advertiser can confirm these claims are false, and the Kalicharans have no connection to the case.
The woman accused of the brutal attack on her 3-year-old daughter, was arrested last week Thursday and is currently still behind bars. She will make her first court appearance today (Monday, September 15).
Despite this, a photo falsely identifying Mrs Kalicharan as the child’s mother circulated widely on social media over the weekend.
In a statement to the Advertiser, Mrs Kalicharan strongly refuted the rumours.
“I strongly refute these claims and want to assure the public that they are entirely untrue. I am shocked and disappointed that such misinformation has spread. I have not been involved in any such case and will cooperate fully with authorities if required.”
She urged the public to avoid sharing unverified information and to refrain from spreading rumours that can harm individuals and their reputations.
“My legal team will take action against anyone found forwarding or disseminating these false allegations on social media or other platforms. Sharing or perpetuating this misinformation may lead to legal consequences.”
Imran Ghafoor of the Newcastle Crime Fighter’s Task Team (Newcastle CCPA) confirmed that spreading false allegations or sharing the couple’s photos could carry legal consequences.
