Man arrested after 2-year-old is murdered in Peacetown

The suspect was remanded into police custody after appearing in the Ladysmith Magistrate's Court.

Police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the murder of a two-year-old child in Peacetown. The incident, which occurred on Sunday afternoon (March 29), has left the local community in shock and disbelief.

According to police, the suspect was apprehended the same day.

Suspect appears in court

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan confirmed that the suspect appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (March 31).

“He was remanded into custody after his court appearance and stands accused of murder. It is alleged that he took the life of his two-year-old child,” said Khan.

The case has been postponed as investigations continue.

Community shaken

The authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased child. The shocking nature of the case has left residents reeling, with many struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.
