Ladysmith police probe carjacking after burning bakkie found
It is believed that a man was robbed of his vehicle, which was later set alight.
Police are investigating a carjacking following the discovery of a bakkie engulfed in flames in Acaciavale, near Domba Graveyard, on Wednesday evening (July 29).
The burning vehicle drew the attention of nearby residents, who gathered at the scene out of curiosity to see what had happened and whether anyone was trapped inside.
Emergency services respond to the scene
Law enforcement officers and emergency medical services responded after the incident was reported.
Fortunately, there were no occupants in the bakkie.
Detectives launch carjacking investigation
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan confirmed that Ladysmith detectives are investigating a carjacking case.
“It is alleged that a man was robbed of his vehicle, which was later set alight. The vehicle was found burning near the Domba Graveyard,” said Khan.
Police confirmed that no one was inside the vehicle when it was discovered.
Investigations are ongoing.
