Friends get life sentences for 2016 Osizweni rape
Her boyfriend's brother and a friend took turns raping her.
Two friends, aged 38 and 41, have been sentenced to life behind bars after they committed a rape in Osizweni in 2016.
The sentences were handed down in the Madadeni Regional Court yesterday (September 29).
According to KZN police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza, the rape occurred at Liester Farm in Osizweni on July 9, 2016, while the then 23-year-old victim was visiting her boyfriend.
The couple allegedly had an argument that culminated in the boyfriend badly assaulting her.
Victim seeks help after attack
She then went to her boyfriend’s brother, seeking help.
Magwaza explains that the boyfriend’s brother told her to stay in his room and calm down, since she was crying and hysterical.
“He went out and later came back with his friend, and the two took turns raping the victim,” said Magwaza.
After the ordeal, they allegedly ordered her to go home and take a bath. Instead, she went to the doctor for medical attention before opening a case at the police station.
The investigation was taken over by the Madadeni Family Violence, Child Protection & Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) and both suspects were eventually arrested.
Suspect evades arrest for 9 years
Magwaza said the two accused were granted bail, but one of them absconded from court and a warrant for his arrest was issued.
“He evaded arrest for nine years before he was finally re-arrested in August 2025.”
Their trial resumed in the Madadeni Regional Court, where they were found guilty of rape and sentenced to life imprisonment each.
They were also declared unfit to possess firearms.
