Bridge repairs finally get underway
The bridge was washed away during heavy rains in 2018
Bridge repairs that have been ‘hanging in the balance’ for over four years look set to take place soon.
In January 2018, heavy rains caused severe damage to the framework of the bridge in Capricorn Road, Colita.
The ferocity of the rainfall caused the bridge to break apart and sink into the Little Bushman’s River. It was deemed dangerous for motorists, as well as learners and staff at the nearby Estcourt Primary School. Repairs to the bridge, although promised to start a couple of months later, never materialised.

On August 23 this year, the bridge repairs were revived when a local municipal delegation visited the site and introduced the contractors that will undertake the job.
Skhova Trading & Projects will be responsible for constructing a bridge which should be complete within five months.
“This bridge will consist of 2.4-metre square culvert pipes that will replace the 1.2-metre round pipes that were previously used. The bridge will also consist of a pedestrian walkway that will have a 1.2-metre handrail and bollards that will separate pedestrians from the driveway, making it safer for our children,” said the local municipality’s communication unit.
The project is also envisaged to create job opportunities for locals.
