Amajuba women unite to champion empowerment and change
Women from across Amajuba gathered to celebrate their achievements while empowering their communities.
As part of Women’s Month, Amajuba District Municipality hosted a Women’s Gala Dinner on Wednesday last week under the theme ‘Empowered Women Empower Nations’.
The evening celebrated women while creating a meaningful platform for conversation, awareness, empowerment and action around issues affecting women and their communities.
Women use their voices to drive change
According to a statement released by the municipality, the gala dinner placed a special focus on gender-based violence, women’s health and economic empowerment, while encouraging women to use their voices, support one another and become catalysts for positive change.
“For Amajuba District Municipality, empowering women is not only about celebrating their achievements, it is about creating opportunities, amplifying their voices and building an environment in which women can participate meaningfully in the development of their communities,” the statement read.
The event brought together women from different sectors and backgrounds, alongside leaders and stakeholders, to share experiences, inspire one another and strengthen the call for a safer, healthier and more empowered society.
“When a woman is empowered, she does not rise alone. She creates space for another woman to rise with her.”
Featured guest speakers included MEC Thembeni KaMadlopha Mthethwa from the Department of Agriculture & Rural Development, Ndlunkulu KaMayisela Zulu and Ms Sphumelele Mbambo of Isayoni.
The programme was also attended by District Mayor TE Mthembu, who continued to champion initiatives aimed at strengthening communities and advancing opportunities for women across the Amajuba District.
