Newcastle residents still facing water supply interruptions

Parts of Newcastle are still experiencing water supply interruptions.
According to the municipality, this is due to challenges currently being experienced at the Showground Pump Station.
Repairs aim to restore water supply
They say the challenges at the pump station have impacted pumping capacity, resulting in critically low water levels at Northdown reservoir, which is currently at approximately 30% of capacity.
The situation has resulted in water supply disruptions in the following areas:
- Ncandu Park;
- Sunny Ridge;
- Amajuba Park;
- Hutten Heights;
- And Pioneer Park.

As an intervention, the team is undertaking repairs and will implement alternative pumping measures to facilitate the recovery of reservoir levels and build sufficient storage capacity.
Municipal water tankers will be dispatched to the affected areas, starting with health and public facilities.
Residents are advised to:
- Use water sparingly and store water for essential use only;
- Keep taps closed to prevent water loss when supply is restored; and
- Allow water to run for a short period after restoration, as water may be temporarily discoloured.

While restoration time is not yet known, the municipality said it would keep residents updated on progress.
