Detective puts murderer away for life
The determined detective arrested the murderer nine days after the heinous crime
Thorough detective work and perseverance by Loskop policeman Warrant Officer SL Ngcobo resulted in a murderer being sentenced to life imprisonment. W/O Ngcobo is part of Amangwe Detective Services and was assigned a murder investigation in October 2021 after a woman was found dead in an open field in Tatane.
The deceased, who has not been named, was attacked and brutally assaulted by her estranged husband, Thokoza Maxwell Ndlovu (38), in the Nkomakazini area.
“She was left for dead and was found in an open field in the Tatane area. She had sustained multiple injuries consistent with that of an assault,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.
An investigation ensued and a manhunt was launched by Amangwe SAPS, who learned that Ndlovu had fled from his home and the area.
W/O Ngcobo led the investigation to seek out the murderer.
“He immediately sprang into action and began to trace the suspect, tasking his informers to assist him. During the early hours of the morning on October 28, nine days after the incident, police swooped on a house in the Tatane area. The thorough detective work by the investigating officer paid off and a bonus was that the accused was found in possession of an unlicensed pistol and ammunition,” explained W/O Khan.
Ndlovu was arrested and charged with murder, as well as possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The state opposed bail and Ndlovu was remanded into custody as the investigation continued. Last week, the trial concluded in the Estcourt Regional Court.

The accused was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, eight years for possession of an unlicensed firearm, and three years for possession of ammunition. The sentences will run concurrently.
The investigating officer has been commended by the Uthukela district commissioner, Major General Jabulani Khumalo, for his perseverance and dedication during the investigation.
