Missing Bergville family possibly found after police recover vehicle from river

They were travelling from Bergville to Vryheid

The bodies of a Bergville family who have been missing since New Year’s Eve have most likely been found after police recovered a vehicle submerged in a small stream on the outskirts of Ladysmith.

They were travelling from Bergville to Vryheid, but never arrived at their destination.

Police search and rescue divers have been busy since just after 11:00 this morning (January 13), recovering bodies from the vehicle.

While it is too early to say what happened, it looks like the vehicle lost control during a heavy thunderstorm, crashing over a crash barrier and ending up in the stream. The car matches the description of the missing car belonging to the family.
