The department said that their doors will be open on Saturdays to give people the opportunity to collect their IDs, new ID applications and temporary IDs. They are doing this to support the upcoming elections that will be held on May 29.

Home Affairs spokesperson Siya Qoza confirmed the new weekend opening hours, saying, ”We are opening from 8am in the morning up until 1pm. We are doing so to help people who want to come in and apply for or collect their IDs. If people want to apply for identification certificates, they can also come through and we’ll be able to assist them.”
