Learners close school and demand that teacher be fired

The parents are also fed up with him

Angry learners from Incinjana Secondary School brought teaching to a standstill after they closed the access road to the school today (April 25).

The learners are demanding that a teacher be fired because of absenteeism.

According to the pupils, this teacher is not taking his job seriously. They claim that after every payday, he is absent for a week or more.

School Governing Body (SGB) chairperson Mr Sibongiseni Madlala condemned the closing of the school. However, he confirmed that, as the SGB, they know about the issue and have engaged with the Department of Education. “As parents, we are very concerned that our children are being denied their constitutional right and we would like the Department of Education to remove him from our school,” said Madlala.

He added that they reported the matter to the local Department of Education, who intervened, but that didn’t help and the matter has since been escalated to Province.
