Hibiscus Road residents frustrated with potholes and water leak
Residents are worried that the 'swampy water' is starting to spill into their yards

Residents of Hibiscus Road in Forderville are bitterly unhappy about the state of the street.
They say it is not fit for vehicles to drive on, due to huge potholes and puddles of swampy water.
The community adds that the road has been like this for months.
A resident commented that, “It’s been a long time since we started to report this road to the local municipality, but we’ve had no luck. It’s very difficult to drive here; only bakkies can negotiate this road. Owners of small cars just have to take the risk, because there is nothing we can do.’’
The resident went on to say that they have also been reporting the situation to uThukela, because they believe the damage to the road is caused by a water leak somewhere nearby. Again, there has been no response from the district municipality.

Speaking to the Estcourt News, Ward 18 Councillor Sibongakonke Mchunu said they are aware of the situation in Hibiscus and other roads, and plans are in place for the streets to be repaired.
‘’We urge the residents of Hibiscus Road to be patient, because plans are already in place. What we did was apply for assistance from Disaster Management. The community needs to understand that everything takes time to be achieved and there are roads that we are currently working on, so we will eventually reach Hibiscus Road. What we think is that not only the potholes need to be fixed; the entire road needs to be completely cleared and re-contracted, which is why we also asked for assistance from Disaster Management,” said Cllr Mchunu.
