Vryheid Luremasters hosted their 16th annual Bivane Bass Challenge over the weekend. Friday night was a festive evening, welcoming all anglers with sheep-on-the-spit and a captain’s meeting. Saturday at 07:00, the starting horn went off and they watched as each boat went out looking for the ‘big ones’. It wasn’t long before the first boat was back, weighing in a 3kg bass – not even half an hour into the competition. For Saturday, they weighed 100 fish, including two bass over 4kg and seven bass over 3kg. A very good day’s fishing! Saturday night was campfire night, with stories about the day’s fishing and plans for Sunday.
