Breakwaters AC’s title challenge fade as Dannhauser AC take League 3 honours

For the second successive season, the Mohamed Midas League title seems to have eluded Breakwaters AC.

Realising that victory in League 3 at Sandford on October 20 was their only hope of mounting a strong comeback for the rest of the season; they put up a formidable challenge in a bid to end Dannhauser AC’s winning streak.

In the end, Dannhauser AC (98 points) took the honours with Breakwaters AC finishing on 83 points

This result has sealed Breakwaters’ fate and with it their chances of winning the league title.

The star angler for Breakwaters AC was Yusuf Amedjee who bagged 11 points, followed by Ossie Oosthuizen, who is enjoying good form with 10 points, and Sai Naransamy (8 points).

Yusuf is currently the club’s top performer.

Generally, it was a day characterised by poor catches but captain Sarfraz Khan is confident that the ‘big guns’ would enjoy better fortunes going forward.

He said that the club is ready to make amends for its poor preseason start; however, he is hoping that the back end of the season would be more rewarding and productive.

The current title holders of the season are:

  • Vernon Naidoo (heaviest scaled fish: 3,236 kg, L3);
  • Riaan Smith (heaviest non-scaled fish: 2,992 kg, L3);
  • Nishen Ramduth (rare species: yellow fish: 1,334 kg, L2);
  • Oosie Oosthuizen (most fish caught: 11 fish);
  • Yusuf Amedjee (most consistent angler, highest point scorer: 11 points, L3, league champion and angler of the year: 15 pts);
  • Rishlyn Bhagaloo (juniorangler of the year: 7 pts);
  • Matthew Shunmugam (senior angler of the year: 11 pts).

The internal singles and doubles knockout competitions have already commenced and add another dimension for the rest of the season.

The next fixture of the APL will be the Knockout Eliminator on November 10 at Sandford, where the top four clubs will proceed to the semi-finals and then the finals.

“Congratulations to all the title holders.”
