Mini- beauty queen brings hope to struggling family
In her latest heart-warming gesture, Luyanda (12) donated food items and blankets to a struggling child headed home in Osizweni.
As the festive season gears up, the Huttenpark primary student felt compelled to do something to help those in need in the community. Assisted by her parents, she approached the Department of Social Development who helped identify two boys living in abject poverty in Osizweni.
The family wasted no time and on Thursday (November 21) delivered the much-needed items to the two boys who were in complete disbelief. The Kunene boys aged 18 and 11 years, have been on their own since their death of their parents years ago. Making matters worse, their mentally challenged older brother burned down their previous house along with all their identification and necessary documents, making it impossible for the boys to collect social grants that could assist them.
As part of her pageantry work, Luyanda has participated in drives and made numerous donations to various organisations. Her donation has been commended by many in her community as an example of empathy and leadership at a young age.
“I have been so lucky to have support and opportunities, and I think it’s important to give back, especially when I can make a difference in someone’s life,” she said
Her proud father, Skhumbuzo, says the entire family is behind Luyanda and is so pleased with her charity work. “Luyanda has brought much-needed relief and a sense of hope to these young boys who have faced so much loss,” he said.
Showing maturity way past her age, Luyanda reminds Newcastilians that no matter our age or circumstances, we all have the power to make a positive impact in the world.
