Municipality warns of job scam
The Newcastle Municipality has issued a warning to job seekers of an ongoing scam targeting those seeking employment.
According to the municipality’s communications unit, a man, who identifies himself as ‘Sibusiso Zulu’, is reportedly posing as the municipality’s human resources manager to deceive individuals into paying for jobs that do not exist.
The scammer has been contacting victims using the phone number 072 424 3705 in an attempt to convince them to pay for a non-existent municipal job. The municipality has urged job seekers to be vigilant and avoid falling prey to this fraudulent scheme.
The municipality emphasised that all recruitment processes for municipal positions are fair, transparent, and strictly adhered to. Job opportunities within the Newcastle Municipality are always advertised on the official municipal website at www.newcastle.gov.za, and no payments are required to apply.
“We strongly urge anyone who has been approached by this individual, or any other similar scams, to report the matter immediately to the South African Police Services (SAPS). Job opportunities with the municipality are not for sale, and any attempts to exploit job seekers will not be tolerated.”
The public is warned that anyone found engaging in such fraudulent activity would face serious legal consequences.
