15 learners injured in school transport crash on Suid Street

Fifteen learners injured after a school bakkie collides with a car in Vryheid.

The early morning rush turned chaotic this morning (Tuesday) when a school transport bakkie carrying learners collided with a car on Suid Street. The crash happened just after 06:00. The bakkie was transporting children aged between 8 and 18 when it struck the side of another vehicle.
KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service and other emergency responders arrived to find a scene of confusion, with children shaken and injured. Paramedics treated 15 pupils on site. Three were seriously hurt and rushed to hospital, while 12 others suffered minor injuries and were taken to local medical facilities for further care.
Police have opened an investigation into the cause of the collision.
