Vryheid Athletics Club closes 2025 with festive coffee run

Vryheid Athletics Club ends 2025 with a festive Wimpy Coffee Run in perfect weather.

Vryheid Athletics Club marked the end of its final long run for 2025 on Saturday with Christmas cheer and their much-loved Wimpy Coffee Run. Runners set off from the Engen Wimpy junction at 05:00, stepping into ideal weather after the previous night’s storm.

A relaxed, inclusive morning

This outing was not about racing or chasing personal bests. It was a celebration of another year together, the chance to enjoy early-morning sunrises, and a moment to wish fellow runners well for the festive season. Distances varied from 10km to 20km, reflecting the relaxed, inclusive mood of the morning.

Support on the route

The group was supported by their dedicated water-car driver, Johan Coetzee, who treated runners to ice-cold refreshments along the route. The run wrapped up back at the junction, where everyone gathered for a hot cup of coffee and good company.

Holiday run schedule

The club will continue with its weekly runs on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays throughout the holiday period, although no official water car will be provided for longer sessions.

Looking ahead to 2026

Members of the public interested in joining the club for 2026 are encouraged to contact club secretary Elizma Nortjie on 083 629 6996. Whether training for a major race, working through a bucket-list goal or simply staying active, the club welcomes runners of all levels.
