Suleman Tayob (26), who stands accused of the murder of 17-year old Henrico Oosthuizen, was granted bail in the Newcastle District Court this morning (Wednesday, December 24).

Tayob, represented by Attorney, Zubair Chothia, appeared in court for his formal bail application.

His release on bail was not opposed by the state.

The courtroom was filled to capacity, with members of both the Tayob and Oosthuizen families present as they awaited the magistrate’s decision.

The court granted Tayob bail in the amount of R2 500, subject to strict conditions.

These included the immediate surrender of his passport, reporting to Newcastle SAPS every Friday, and he is not to contact any of the witnesses.

The Oosthuizen family has requested privacy during this difficult period as they continue to mourn the loss of their son and process the court’s decision.
