Update on Klipriver pump station flooding

The reservoirs need to fill up first before they can pump out to all areas.

The breakdown at the Klipriver pump station has been resolved. An uThukela spokesperson commented that they are now able to resume pumping at full capacity from the Ladysmith Water Treatment Works.

However, they first need to fill up all storage reservoirs before they are able to pump out to all areas of supply. This is due to critically low water levels as a result of the breakdown.

“If all goes well, we plan to supply water to all areas of supply from 05:00 tomorrow morning (January 16). However, it may be necessary to implement water-shedding to assist with the filling of storage reservoirs in Ladysmith to the required levels. Levels will be monitored and if water-shedding is deemed necessary, we will communicate this accordingly. The community is advised to use water sparingly,” he added.
