ANC celebrates birthday of Wembezi veteran

Mbense thanked God that he survived the political violence of the past.

The ANC Herbert Zulu Branch in Ward 8 Wembezi (Inkosi Langalibalele Sub-Regional Task Team, Josiah Gumede Region) recently co-ordinated the birthday celebrations for party veteran Mshwayiza Mbhense. It is believed that Mbense was born in 1918 on kaMlukhombela Farm in the kwaMastata area near Impendle, KZN, making him very old indeed if the calculations are correct.

Mbense later relocated to Wembezi, Estcourt. As a veteran, he explained his deep scars from the political violence involving the ANC and IFP. Mbense thanked God that he survived that horrific and devastating time in history.

The birthday celebration was attended by ANC volunteers from the Wembezi Cluster (Ward 8, 9 and 17); PTT member Mbali Frazer; JGRTT officials / members: deputy convenor Bongani Dlamini; co-ordinator Dudu Mazibuko and deputy co-ordinator Phindile Strydom; the ILM Sub-Regional Task Team; as well as Cosatu and SANCO leadership.

Regional task team spokesperson Sipho Ndaba stated that, “The programme then proceeded to the Wembezi C-Section Hall, where leadership of the ANC engaged with ANC volunteers from the branches and encouraged them to work hard to rebuild the organisation. To reconnect with people on the ground in order for the ANC to reclaim the trust of the people and be able to address the regress in service delivery caused by the ongoing non-accountability and corruption by the IFP-led Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality.”
