Heatwave hits Ladysmith, Northern KZN

Stay hydrated and stay out of the sun.

The Northern KwaZulu‑Natal region has been hit by a fierce heatwave!

Alfred Duma Local Municipality said in a statement that the heatwave struck yesterday (February 4) and is set to continue until tomorrow (February 6).

Ladysmith, Indaka and many neighbouring municipalities have fallen victim to scorching temperatures. The municipality warns that heat like this can severely exacerbate the dangers of heatstroke, exhaustion, dehydration, anxiety and respiratory problems.

Residents are advised to cut down on strenuous physical activity; drink lots of water; stay out of the direct sun; and find shaded, well‑ventilated spots.

Many schools have stopped all outdoor sports as a result of the heatwave.

Please check on the elderly, children and vulnerable persons, and share water and shelter with those who need it.
