Water to flow again as RASP steps in

Residents are set to get water after RASP was deployed to fix pump failures at the Abattoir Hill Reservoir.

Ward 20 Councillor Abbas Warasally paid a visit to the Abattoir Hill Reservoir this morning (February 6) after residents supplied by the Embazeni Water Treatment Plant have gone more than a week without water.

The outage has hit the high-lying areas hardest, leaving many households ‘dry’ and frustrated. Speaking during the site visit, Warasally confirmed that uThukela Mayor Nkosi NB Shabalala has authorised RASP Consultants to step in and address the problem.

According to reports from the site, the disruption was caused by pumps that were repeatedly tripping, preventing water from reaching the affected areas.

RASP technicians are currently on site working to solve the issue.

Affected residents have been assured that water is expected to flow again shortly, bringing relief to communities that have been without this essential service for days.

In a statement, Warasally added that, “I attended a meeting this morning at the Abattoir Hill Reservoir, together with Honourable Mayor Inkosi NB Shabalala. We share a firm and common view that our communities should not be left without water, particularly during these exceptionally hot conditions.

“In response to the challenges experienced at the Abattoir Hill Reservoir, the mayor authorised RASP Consultants to intervene immediately and address the operational issues. This intervention is aimed at restoring water flow and ensuring reliable supply to the high-lying areas within the affected wards that are serviced by the Abattoir Hill system. Every effort is being made to stabilise the situation as a matter of urgency, with the well-being of our communities remaining our highest priority.”
