Newcastle Coastal Hire opens new premises in town

Family-run business expands into new premises and celebrates community support.

Newcastle Coastal Hire, the leading franchise in small-to-medium equipment and tool rentals, launched at its new premises on the corner of Hardwick and Paterson streets on Saturday.

From Pretoria to Newcastle

Since Corné Engelbrecht and his wife, Jacomari, took over the franchise two and a half years ago, the business has grown from strength to strength, with new branches opening in Vryheid and Pongola.

The Engelbrechts are all set to have a branch in Volksrust up and running by the end of March.

Originally from Pretoria, CornĂ© accumulated 11 years’ experience in the construction and tool rental industry, before relocating to Newcastle to take over the local Coastal Hire franchise.

“We were looking for a more family orientated community where we could grow, bond and thrive as a family, and by the grace of God, we are here today,” said CornĂ©. “The community of Newcastle has welcomed my family and really made us feel at home here. The community’s support for our business has been truly amazing. We are grateful to each and every one of our customers and to our fantastic staff.”

A hands-on family approach

Corné and Jacomari have laboured hard behind the scenes to build the business from the ground up, working hands-on in every department, including counter sales and the maintenance workshop, to ensure everything runs smoothly.

While Corné is responsible for business development, external marketing and managing the workshop, Jacomari handles admin, human resource management and marketing.

The husband and wife power-team emphasise family culture in their day-to-day business, inculcating their shared values, beliefs and uncompromising high standards just as much in the workplace as they do at home.

“‘The right tool with the right attitude’ is our motto. We don’t just pride ourselves on being able to provide you with the best tools, we also offer the best client service,” said CornĂ©. “Here, at Newcastle Coastal Hire, we treat both our customers and our staff with the same respect we afford the members of our own family.”

As a result, the Engelbrechts have earned the loyalty of several staff members who have been with them from the start of their journey, including Radio, who has more than 10 years’ experience in the industry; Lucky, the mechanic who ensures every machine is kept in tip-top condition; and Kwazi, the driver who is happy to assist with any task.

“We have now grown to a team of 19 staff members in Newcastle. Each and every one of them has contributed to where we are today. Without them, we wouldn’t be where we are,” concluded CornĂ©.

Launch event showcases strength and equipment

The official launch of Newcastle Coastal Hire featured a strongman (and strongwoman) competition, calling for staff and clients of the business to use their physical strength and mental toughness to conquer a series of difficult challenges.

The challenges were designed to incorporate and showcase some of Coastal Hire’s superior quality equipment.

Kyle Short emerged as the winner of the strongman competition, while a contender who identified herself only by her nickname, ‘Ghosted’, won the strongwoman competition.

Newcastle Coastal Hire extends its sincere gratitude to all its sponsors and everyone who assisted with the event to ensure that it was a success.
