Russian ambassador visits museum
Russian Ambassador to South Africa, His Excellency (H.E.) Mr Roman Ambarov, visited Newcastle on Tuesday, April 21.
He was welcomed by Council Speaker Thengi Zulu, Deputy Mayor Andile Nkosi and Executive Committee member Bertie Meiring at St Dominics Newcastle.

Ambarov visited the Fort Amiel Museum to hand over a Russian flag; framed pictures; and old, original Russian Bibles that are 126 years old, to be displayed in the museum.
126 years ago, the Russian Red Cross Group established a hospital in Newcastle to provide medical care to Boer combatants and civilians during the Anglo-Boer War in 1900.
The ambulance and hospital were stationed at the old St Dominics Convent.
“I am thankful for the hospitality and I truly appreciate the preservation of local heritage sites by the municipality and management of St Dominics Newcastle,” said Ambarov.
