Members of the Newcastle Organisation for the Aged (Nofta) tucked into a decadent slice of vanilla sponge cake with their afternoon tea last Wednesday, thanks to a generous donation from Pick n Pay Newcastle Mall.

Besides cake, Pick n Pay also donated biscuits, chocolates and milk tart for an early Mother’s Day treat, honouring mothers and grandmothers, as is the annual tradition at Nofta.

Sweet treats brighten the day

Nofta chairperson Morris Gajoo thanked Pick n Pay for its sponsorship, saying, “As a family-focused supermarket, you truly embody the spirit of care for our local community. These thoughtful treats bring immense joy to our aged mothers and show them they are loved and appreciated.”

Addressing Nofta on behalf of Pick n Pay, Tash Induraj said she was humbled and emotional to see such a big turnout at the Mother’s Day tea.

A gesture of appreciation

After delivering the spoils, Induraj and her team remained at the Nofta hall to help dish up and serve the cake.

“This is a small gesture from us to say ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ to all the lovely mums and grandmothers out there. Thank you for shopping with us and I hope you enjoy the treats we provided for you,” said Induraj.
