Vryheid High Eco-Club discovers cave adventure
Vryheid High Eco-Club explores a hidden cave on Vryheid Hill while sports teams deliver strong performances.
On Friday, 35 members of the Vryheid High Eco-Club hiked up Vryheid Hill to explore a cave hidden amongst the krantzes. The day was filled with excitement and memorable experiences as learners tackled head-high grass, thorn trees, rocky pathways, steep inclines and slippery mud along the route.
One of the highlights of the hike was the challenging 3-metre crawl on hands and knees to get into and out of the cave, which added to the thrill and adventure of the day.
Inside the cave, learners experienced a dark, damp and surreal atmosphere. Huntsman spiders scattered across the walls as torches lit up the cave interior. An Eland bone, bat guano and an empty bottle provided evidence of previous occupation by both animals and humans.
The two-and-a-half-hour hike left some learners invigorated and others completely exhausted, but everyone agreed that it was a fantastic way to end a demanding week of learning.
The Eco-Club would like to extend a BIG thank you to the Ezemvelo Honorary Officers, Frikkie Bekker, Coenie Swanepoel and Clive Mattison, for making the outing on the Vryheid Hill Nature Reserve such an unforgettable experience.
Rainy conditions do not stop Vryheid High sport
On Saturday, Vryheid High travelled to take on Richards Bay High School in wet and rainy conditions. Despite the weather, our teams showed determination and excellent sportsmanship throughout the day.
