Farm watch team arrests 3 suspected maize thieves
Tactical teams acted on a tip-off that the men would come back to load more of the maize.
Three suspected maize thieves were apprehended by the Normandien Farm Watch Tactical Response Unit on the evening of May 19.
According to Mornè Potgieter of Ithemba Security, the unit acted on information relating to an active maize theft case at one of their clients’ farms.
Tactical teams monitor suspects
“Through ongoing investigations and valuable informer information received, we were alerted that the suspects would return to load more maize. Our tactical teams immediately acted by strategically closing off the area and keeping observation on the scene,” explained Potgieter.
When the alleged thieves arrived to load and collect the maize, the tactical unit moved in and apprehended them. They were handed over to the SAPS in Normandien.
Community safety remains top priority
“Well done to all team members involved for their dedication, teamwork and commitment in following up on the information received. Another successful arrest was made while helping to keep our farming community safe,” Potgieter concluded.
