4 injured in R69 multi-vehicle collision

Four people are injured in a multi-vehicle collision on the R69 near Vryheid.

Emergency services responded to a multi-vehicle collision on the R69 near Black Horse Lodge this afternoon (Thursday).

The crash involved a truck, a taxi, a light motor vehicle and two light delivery vehicles.

According to initial reports, poor visibility allegedly caused by a nearby veld fire is believed to have contributed to the pile-up. It is alleged that the truck slowed down, after which a taxi, a bakkie, a car and another bakkie were involved in the collision. A fifth bakkie reportedly managed to swerve to avoid the impact and was not damaged.

Four people injured

Three people sustained minor injuries, while one person was seriously injured. Emergency personnel treated the injured at the scene before transporting them to hospital.

The cause of the collision is expected to be investigated.

Motorists are urged to approach the area with caution and expect delays while emergency services clear the scene.
