AbaQulusi receives withheld Treasury funding

AbaQulusi confirms receipt of its withheld equitable share after a Treasury error.

The AbaQulusi Local Municipality has confirmed that it received its 2026/27 equitable share allocation on Friday after the funds were initially withheld by the National Treasury.

Mayor says withholding resulted from Treasury error

Mayor Councillor Sifiso Mkhwanazi said the municipality had now received the allocation after what he described as an error by the National Treasury.

“The National Treasury has previously confirmed that the AbaQulusi Local Municipality was erroneously included in the list of municipalities that had their equitable share withheld due to non-compliance,” he said.

Treasuries thanked for resolving the matter

Mkhwanazi thanked both the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Treasury and the National Treasury for resolving the matter and said the municipality would continue to work closely with both institutions.

“I would like to thank both the Provincial and National Treasuries and reaffirm our commitment to maintaining a good working relationship with these important stakeholders,” he said.

Undocumented immigration to be discussed

Separately, Mkhwanazi said undocumented immigration remains an ongoing concern in AbaQulusi. He said the matter will be discussed during a community imbizo on Tuesday, where stakeholders will raise concerns about ensuring that undocumented immigrants are dealt with consistently across all wards in the municipality.
