Umzinyathi police honour partners for keeping peace during shutdown protests
Police have thanked community partners whose support helped keep uMzinyathi peaceful during the planned national shutdown.
Following the planned national shutdown on June 30, the uMzinyathi District Police have recognised the community stakeholders who helped maintain peace, stability and public safety across the district.
District Commissioner Major General Francis Slambert and her management team visited communities across uMzinyathi on July 16 to thank the organisations and individuals who worked closely with the South African Police Service (SAPS) before, during and after the planned protest action.
Certificates recognise community support
During the visits, Major General Slambert presented certificates of appreciation to stakeholders in recognition of their commitment to maintaining law and order.
She praised community leaders, businesses, Community Policing Forums, municipalities, government departments and private security companies for working together to prevent disruptions.
“The cooperation and vigilance displayed by our stakeholders played a significant role in ensuring that communities remained peaceful and law-abiding throughout the operation,” she said.
Partnerships remain key
Major General Slambert stressed that community safety is a shared responsibility and urged stakeholders to continue strengthening their partnerships with SAPS.
She encouraged all role players to remain actively involved in tackling crime and safety challenges beyond the events of June 30.
Umzinyathi police spokesperson Sergeant Siyabonga Nkwanyana said the initiative highlighted the value of cooperation between police and communities in creating a safer uMzinyathi District.
