Two men have each been sentenced to 15 years’ direct imprisonment after the Nquthu Regional Court found them guilty of murdering a 56-year-old man in Eziqhazeni in May last year.

Sihle Dlame (27) and Sibonga Manyathi (27) were convicted on July 21 after the court accepted evidence gathered during an extensive police investigation.

Investigation led to arrests

The murder case was investigated by Detective Sergeant Nqobizitha Buthelezi of the Nquthu Detective Service.

Police established that Sinothi Nzima had argued with his former girlfriend before she allegedly contacted her cousins. The two men then allegedly assaulted the victim, leaving Nzima with severe injuries. He died at the scene, while the suspects fled.

Investigators first arrested the former girlfriend, which led them to Dlame and Manyathi, who had fled to Gauteng. Detective Sergeant Buthelezi gathered evidence that resulted in their successful prosecution.

Justice welcomed

Umzinyathi District Commissioner Major General Francis Slambert welcomed the sentence and praised Detective Sergeant Buthelezi for his professional and dedicated investigation.

She said the outcome demonstrated the South African Police Service’s commitment to thoroughly investigating serious violent crimes and ensuring those responsible are brought before the courts to answer for their actions.
