Community rallies together to help Tijana smile again
Bell’s palsy has left Tijana Holtzhausen struggling with everyday tasks.
13-year-old Tijana Holtzhausen needs the community’s help after being diagnosed with Bell’s palsy this past week.
Tiffany Rostron, Tijana’s older sister, explained that just a few days ago, their lives changed in an instant.
“Tijana went for an afternoon nap, just like any other day. When she woke up, the right side of her face was completely numb and she could no longer move it. Our happy, healthy little girl was suddenly frightened and struggling to smile,” she explained.
Since then, Tijana’s condition has become even more concerning.
According to Tiffany, Tijana has developed severe headaches and recurring nosebleeds, and the family has had to rush her to a hospital in Pretoria for urgent medical care.
“The uncertainty has been incredibly difficult for our entire family,” said Tiffany.
Everyday tasks have become a struggle
At just 13 years old, Tijana is now facing challenges no child should have to endure.
She struggles to close her right eye, putting her vision at risk. She also finds it difficult to speak clearly, eat, smile and even breathe comfortably.
“The simple things she once took for granted have suddenly become daily challenges.”
Tiffany explained that, as a family, it has been heartbreaking to watch Tijana suffer while they wait for answers.
“We would do anything to take away her pain and give her the chance to be a carefree teenager again.”
Tijana urgently needs specialist consultations, scans, medical tests and ongoing treatment to give her the best possible chance of recovery.
Unfortunately, the medical costs are more than the family can manage alone.
Family turns to community for help
The family has therefore turned to the community for support. Tiffany has started a BackaBuddy campaign to help raise funds for Tijana’s medical treatment, which is expected to last around six months.
Should you wish to make a donation, you can do so through the BackaBuddy campaign.
“Every donation, no matter how big or small, will go directly towards Tijana’s medical care. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing her story. One share could reach someone who is able to help.
“Most importantly, we ask that you please keep Tijana in your thoughts and prayers. We believe in hope, we believe in miracles, and we believe that with the support of compassionate people like you, she has the best chance to recover,” said Tiffany.
“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with Tijana and our family during one of the most difficult times of our lives. Together, let’s help Tijana smile again,” Tiffany concluded.
